Albany Stakes racing tip: Oisin Murphy looking to open Royal Ascot account on Gushing Gold

By John FearnPublished on 23rd June 2023

Oisin Murphy is still seeking his first winner at Royal Ascot 2023

We've reached day four at Royal Ascot and the hitherto fruitless Oisin Murphy has caused a major blip on the radar of Tipstrr’s each-way pundits as he looks to claim his first win in Friday's opener.

14:30 Albany Stakes (Group 3) (6 furlongs)
One of the newest events of the Festival, the Albany Stakes is for juvenile fillies only and was introduced as part of the extended Jubilee event in 2002 before being promoted to Group 3 status three years later.
Last year's race was won by Aidan O'Brien's Meditate (5/1), who eased clear of 2/1 favourite Mawj, who went on to reverse that result in this year's 1,000 Guineas.
If we believe the betting markets then this appears to be a six-horse race between the only runners offering a single-digit price, while the other dozen starters are all priced 16/1 or greater at the time of writing.

Among that pack of apparent outsiders is the Andrew Balding-trained Gushing Gold, who gave a glimpse of her potential on her debut outing at Leicester 24 days ago.
Despite running green two furlongs out, she responded well to rally strongly down the stretch to come second, a length behind the winner but more than four lengths clear of third, with the remaining seven runners strung further out behind.
Oisin Murphy takes the reins here, and the former champion jockey will be keen to open his Royal Ascot account after failing to take any of his previous 16 rides into the winners' enclosure.

The closest he has come so far was when Valiant King came within the shortest of short heads of Desert Hero in the King George V Stakes on Thursday.

It was also a case of close-but-no-cigar on Saint George in the Queen's Vase, as well as the strongly fancied Coltrane, who was outpaced in glorious fashion by Frankie Dettori's Courage Mon Ami in the Gold Cup.
It's hard to imagine a jockey of Murphy's stature remaining winless throughout the entire week, and the consensus within the Tipstrr camp is that Gushing Gold could be the one to open the floodgates.

The Balding yard is renowned for improving a horse after its initial outing, so his charge is sure to be fully prepped for this step up to six furlongs.

Suggested bet: Gushing Gold each-way in the 14:30 at Royal Ascot
