Royal Ascot Gold Cup racing tips: Subjectivist can bounce back

Subjectivist is looking for more Gold Cup glory at Royal Ascot

The centrepiece of Royal Ascot, and indeed the midpoint of the five-day Festival, has Tipstrr’s racing experts furiously running their betting models to extract the best value from the 13 starters.

16:20 Gold Cup (Group1) (2 miles 4 furlongs)

The blue riband event of Royal Ascot week, the Gold Cup is the most prestigious Flat event for stayers, and rarely disappoints as a race and a spectacle.

Last year saw three-time winner Stradivarius bow out in third place behind worthy 15/8 favourite Kyprios, who rallied under Ryan Moore to hold off the challenge of the game Mojo Star.
The early favourite here is Andrew Balding's Coltrane, who was the 14/1 winner of last year's Ascot Stakes, and hit the ground running on this season's debut in May to land the Sagaro Stakes here by almost five lengths.

Eldar Eldarov and Courage Mon Ami both have realistic claims to challenge the favourite, but one that the Tipstrr camp believe is flying beneath the radar is Subjectivist, who memorably romped this race as a moderately fancied 13/2 shot in 2021.

He passed hands from father Mark Johnston to son Charlie and missed all of 2022 with injury before returning to the track in the Middle East earlier this year.
Rusty in his first outing, he shaped up much better in the Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan in March, showing glimpses of his undoubted quality to finish a very encouraging third of 15 high-class runners.

Jockey Joe Fanning only has three Royal Ascot rides this year, but will carry high hopes into the saddle of Subjectivist, who would be sure get the crowd cheering if still in contention approaching the finish.

Suggested bet: Subjectivist each-way in the 16:20 at Royal Ascot
